Congress 2008

Congress 2008 was held at the The Royal Hotel in Weston-Super-Mare on 13th-14th May.

Mrs. Mavis Roper was in the Chair as National President and Mrs. Beryl Ward as National Vice-President.

A total of 121 attended Congress: 7 NEC; 5 Standing Orders Committee; 28 Delegates; 9 Regional Representatives; 12 Ex-Nationals and 60 visitors.

Resolutions were passed on Housing for the Elderly; Co-operative Housing; Phone Charges in the NHS; NHS A & E Departments; Injured Soldiers; Care; Abortion; Personal Hygiene Products; Public Servants; Statutory Rights; 24-Hour Drinking; Voting; Custom & Excise Patrols;Tax Benefits for Unmarried Parents and Erosion of Childhood.

Amendments to regulations were passed on Head Office Funding; Length of Service for Chairman of Standing Orders; Length of Service for Committee of Standing Orders; Dissolution of Exhange Fund and Ben Jones Trustees.

The National Project for Diabetics UK raised a tremendous £2862. The National Project for 2008/09 is Headway.

We congratulate Mrs. Beryl Ward our new National President for 2008/09 and Mrs. Kath Hopley our new National Vice-President.

We thank Mrs. Mavis Roper who retired due to ill-health and Mrs. Christine Hay who had served her term on the National Executive Committee and welcome Mrs. Lyn Longbottom and Mrs. Susan Jones to the committee.
